In fact, that particular unifying myth was part of the Empire of Friends, or Dorastor Empire, or Nysalor empire, or golden Empire of the First Age.

Harmast was the first person to fully understand the LBQ, and pull together many of its parts from other fragmentary (and secret) cycles. And yes, it was well known by the Heortlings. One might say they "originated" it.

It is their collective consciousness and awareness, manifest as a separate entity, of course! Just like it is for humans.
