And given cat's abilities to sleep long amounts of time, and appear asleep but be awake, and disappear for long periods of time and then come back, it would seem possible that there is/was real ambiguity about Yinkin's death.

And given cats' abilities to get into odd places, it might be normal for Yinkin to eventually have hunted some of the last prey into the underworld, rather than dying per se. But once down there he probably could not return until the dawn--but the effect on his followers may have been different than if he'd outright died.
