So, if I am to understand, the basic principles are:

Priests can gleam some information from people's life-flames The life-flame of the deceased can be merged with the life-flame of an adult. This results in inheritance of the deceased person's possessions, obligations, etc.
Each person is born with a life-flame.
If the deliberate transmigration techniques are not used, then...? (Possibly, the life-flame finds its own way to rebirth.)

Speculations:
There is a caste system outside of your life-flame's position in life. If the deceased's life-flame is merged into the life-flame of a lower/higher caste that young adult's caste does not change. Thus this can be a punishment or reward.
Priests can write general events into your future, by writing to the flame-poem.
There are spiritual relationships that are passed with the deceased's life-flame. Such as your "flame-wife", etc. The life-flame can be stored outside of any body after death with magical technology.

Are these a decent summary? Is something there wrong?
