Considering that fyrd, tula, odal, and wyter all have siimlar origins, I think it a forgone conclusion that it is deliberate. The first time I saw fryd and tula was in Pendragon in the Cambria (Wales) book where it was used to describe the Cymri there. And as I recall, Greg wrote much of that book.
