Vingkot never made any commitments to Ezkankekko. 'twas Heort.

The word I've heard is that when Broyan became King of the Hendriki, he became liable for magical debts owned to the Kitori. Since he wasn't aware of them, they didn't get paid until it was too late and they sent the collectors in.

That this occurred after the sacking of the City of Wonders led people to draw the obvious but mistaken conclusion about the causes of his death.
