There's more than a few historical cases. However, a clan or tribe which has this kind of setup on a regular basis probably has a very peculiar magical infrastructure. Probably interferes greatly with things like diplomacy, crops, fertlity, and all that fun stuff. But with a real wargod at the helm, tribute and plunder should roll in.

I would think a Humakti chief would be a sign of barbaric times such as those around the Settlement period as seen in King of Dragon Pass or during times of prolonged strife with outsiders such as the Gbaji Wars... Orlanth is god of raids and governs feuds and blood price. Humakt deals with outsiders who are beyond the pale of Orlanth's kin.
