For one possible interpretation of a Thing With Many Bodies, read the * Paratwa* trilogy by Christopher Hinz. Each Paratwa has two bodies sharing a single mind. They rely mainly on guerrilla and terror tactics, aiming to cause maximum harm and panic before slipping away in the ensuing chaos, and are nigh impossible to divide sufficiently to permit one to be taken out without the other being able to attack from a position of strength.
