What I was remembering is, "The first humans entered this region from Genertela during the Second Age" from Missing Lands.

The Malkioni are documented as showing up in 580, but it's true that the Waertagi imported 100 individuals during the Dawn Age [both in Revealed Mythologies]. I've never seen a date for this event. Most likely the Malkioni colonization was on a much larger scale, and the original Waertagi experiment is just a rounding error. Just how big they got would depend on how early they arrived. (And it's a fair guess to say that some of the tiny settlements didn't survive.)

I take ML to mean that any Artmali were also very small settlements.

You could play a solitary settlement game in Dawn Age Umathela, but I don't think that's what Gianni was looking for.
