Subject: The Familial System of the Safelstran

Because of the different types of marriage customs held by the various tribes who joined together into the Dangan confederacy and Dari Alliance there exists a complex system of marriage rights and inheritance rights. These stem mainly from the union of a patriarchy and a matriarchy in the first joining of the tribes, the Utoni and the Vustri, the first of which had strict marriage laws and the second, which had no regular marriages at all.

The first type of union is called Belemor, translated as marriage. Here two people are joined together for life in formal ceremonies, and their children are the only legal inheritors of their parent's goods. They carry a name of the father's.

The second type of union is called Ulemor, translated as concubineage. The people live together for a selected number of years, and when they separate their goods are divided as planned beforehand and their children have a combination of their mother's and father's names.

The third type of union is when the father is not known, the child having been conceived during one of the religious festivals of the orgiastic type. Here the child's carries his mother's house name.
