Honored Friends,
We are now back in our homes, from the CHIMERIADES convention in Provence, superbly organized by Philippe Auribeau and his team. There were about 100 participants, about 85% ("orlanthi all") French, with some furrin guest stars, whom I'll let say their piece. The weather was beautiful, the setting fair, the food excellent. And we gamed like crazy.
Glorantha-wise, we had :
- the 4th edition of the Prax at War boardgame/RPG hybrid, run by Gregory Privat and Eric Vanel, with 16 players. Again the lunar light shone through barbarian darkness, our glorious troops ending up controlling all strategic points they had been assigned to, with a Moon temple built at Moonbroth. We still don't understand how we made it, so divided and messy were our attempts ! Great fun, 4-5 hours of intense playing, haggling and fighting. Even better : 5 or 6 people who didn't play but loitered around asked for a chance to play. It wasn't possible this time, but the next convention will see PaW again.
- THE humkati HQ scenario by Fabian Küchler : what it's like to be called by Humakt when you're an adult. Horrifying, exhilarating, unsettling, a truly personal journey I'm glad I made - this was the first time ever I played something that personal, that deep. Do try it if Fabian offers it to you. And don't be afraid of his "big scary german guy" act : he really is like that !
- the latest Greg Privat figurines game, a duck / broo skirmish in the upland marsh. Get the piggies, the babies and the goodies - or defend them. Beautiful set-up as always.
- A fascinating, unexpected and twisted HQ Pavis scenario by Jeff, from his soon-to-be-published Pavis Book. If I talk about it before publication I'll have brain flayers sent to me, so that's it. Interestingly, he handled 7 players simultaneously, some who needed translation, and it still worked well. Goes to show the story's quality !
- the Glorantha seminar, with lots of info about new Lunar Magics rules, malkioni, Arkat, the Heavens... Lots of geeky stuff, with a few surprises thrown in.
At all these events were a few younger guys who had heard of / noticed Glorantha and whom we talked to, hopefully without scaring them off with our enthusiasm. It was very pleasant to introduce them to this world and game.
So, a beautiful week-end which memory I'll long keep. You furriners: don't hesitate to come to Chimériades next time. Ask your compatriots who did about their experience.
May She Bless You All.
Hervé
