Hi,

there are some older but still useful documents linked from http://www.glorantha.com/new/cosmology.html - but, of course, I would say that because I co-authored some of them :)

Summary: there are 3 levels of HeroQuest, but it is more a spectrum than hard-edged levels. 1 - Ceremony. This is fully controlled (usually) by the participants who enact a ritualised quest at low risk for smaller benefits and is wholly within the mundane world.

2 - Practice Quest. The protagonists of this type of quest go out into the mundane world after a ritual start. The magic of the quest attracts external participants to fulfill the required roles. The magic of this kind of quest also puts visible marks on participants (the herolight) and the participants see the world change to be more like the otherside. More risks and therefore potentially more rewards.

3 - Otherworld or full Heroquest. Very high risk but potentially the rewards can change the world. The main participants disappear from this world and bodily go to the Otherworlds.
