        I think of it more as about the level of appreciation, which is cultural. Trolls appreciate smells associated with dwellings and body odour the way wine drinkers appreciate the range of smells in wine. 'Uncultured' trolls just know there are smells they like and are used to, 'educated' trolls are able to pick up a range of subtleties, many outside their everyday experience.
