Vivamort's role in the Sword Story is pertinent to the Heortlings as a cautionary tale about the dangers of not accepting mortality. As such, it doesn't matter about vampirism, but about the folly and danger to try and cheat death.

That's not a vampire myth, but a very human Heortling myth.
