I saw it last night in an empty theatre. I thought it was excellent too. I agree about the Zodangans, but Dejah Thoris just needed red hair to become Jar Eel. The Therns reminded me of the Lunar Coder Sorceror guy.
The landscape - full of ruins and crumbling rock formations is how I see the wastes. although with a slightly more varied colour scheme.
John Carter obviously learnt his Battle Magic from Gerak Kag.
