IMO, any elemental Rune you find / awaken within you IS your True Self. It so happens most men have an airy self and most women have an earthy self. Doesn't mean odd cases born with Fire or Water in them are "false" or "inferior" or "wrong" in any way. Proof is, there are acceptable cults for them (Elmal, Heler). Some tribes / clans even have more widespread exotic Runes (i.e. many Torkani are of Darkness). However, such people will often be considered oddballs, going against the "normal" cultural model.
