Barntar Orlanthson, God of the Plow, did many other things: he tamed the wild bull, hunted the bear off his lands, made friends with the alynx, fought off and killed the bad weeds (aldryami), etc... and died under vadrus' blows, but that's another story. Each of these is a myth. Myths explain the world. When you re-enact what your God did, you make him/her stronger, and some of this power flows in you. This is called Magic. It's a mere side effect of you knowing the Myth. 85% of men worship Orlanth in some aspect (such as Barntar), and 85% of women worship Ernalda in some aspect. The other are weirdoes, who still know effective Myths and practise effective Magics.
