Just a couple of first (and banal) thoughts:

I'd also go for this - and for that matter, I'd suggest we start with the simplest option,

and get a better handle on (a) how we work together and (b) what stead-building involves, before going for more ambitious targets, however fun they will undoubtedly be.

The stages work well, even though inevitably

will not only be the first to be written but then the last to be edited, as we retro-fit all the cool ideas we come up with in the rest of the project.
