Or perhaps that having Argrath and his bodyguard kill/get killed by the players would be a bloody fiasco and would be a somewhat unsatisfying conclusion to the scenario?

If you're going to assume that the RQ rules do not represent reality you sort of need to make the same assumption for scenarios. Playability almost always wins over reality if the alternative is instant death for the PCs.
