For those of you interested in this thread, one additional note. For those who still have concerns about the lack of detail on what feats do - looking at this article and particular the section on stance may help. Now I don't claim to be expert with this theory but my interpretation is that HW seems to give a lot of opportunites to the player to be in what Ron Edwards calls Director stance stance in contests.

The bidding process and the responsibilty on the player to decide the form, nature and effect of feats are an example of this stance, as opposed to, for example, RQ's more traditional method in which a player employs a fixed description. In that sense its a feature of a game trying to create a narrativist approach.

Anyway that's probably enough theory for thiw week ;)

"They were seven in all, and therewithal both sides rushed into the fight. Thorarin slew a house-carle of Thorbiorn's, and Alfgeir another, and there fell also a housecarle of Thorarin's; but no weapons would bite on Odd Katlason. Now the goodwife Aud calls out on her women to part them, and they cast clothes over the weapons." The Story Of The Ere-Dwellers Chapter 18
