Ah, that makes more sense, and makes going up against someone who greatly outclasses you even more dangerous, in that you can't rely on rolling a 1 and getting a tied critical success!

Using the previous example of a contest cancelling down to 10w2 vs 10

10w2 rolls 1 - Critical success, 2 "bumps down" - opponent will fail on a roll of 1 and fumble on anything else

10w2 rolls 2-10 - Critical Success, 1 "bump down" - opponent will succeed on a roll of 1, fail on a 2-10 and fumble on anything else

10w2 rolls 11-19 - Critical Success, no "bump down" - opponent will critical on a 1 (for a tied critical), succeed on a 2-10, fail on an 11-19 and fumble on a 20

10w2 rolls a 20 - Success, no "bump down" - opponent will Critical on a 1 and succeed on a 2-10 (for a marginal )low roll wins) victory, fail on 11-19 and fumble on a 20.

Calculating how quickly and how badly Harrek will kill your tribal champion is left as an exercise for the reader ;)
