I'd just let the characetr write "Possessed by <name of spirit>." in the character writeup, and give it a normal ability rating, which would basicaly be the spirit's Might. Then it's just up to the two of you how the spirit's ability is used in play. I think you're right, it's s weird kind of follower.

You say the spirit is asicaly malign. In what way? There are all kinds of ways in which that might manifest.

That leaves the more general question, how do we handle prophetic abilities in play? I'd use it as a convenient way to feed vague, medium to long-term campaign plot information to the players.
