But even if you dont. Its the NPCs augments that matter. You can't possibly predict those. Theres an infinite number of possibilities because they can come from any other npc or circumstance in the game. When the time comes you will have to improvise how many NPCs you allow to augment your main NPC and whether you treat them as fully fledged npcs or roll them into the main one. And you will have to choose any number of other things. And you will do it to make an entertaining evenings play by making sure its pitched about right.

So many aspects of the final numbers are down to improvisation and are chosen in order to be suitable for the players whose final numbers are outside your ability to guess in advance that the fact that you dont want to alter the main NPCs main ability off the ballpark everone expectes does not make much difference to Mikes underlying argument.
