The confusion may be because of the great similarity to a RQ Divine Spell (sorry, I forget the precise name) which did indeed leave the caster irretrievably dead at the end. It did a bit more than a mere Berserk, mind you. You could tell who your friends were. I forget the precise plusses, but I think doubling your attack came in there somewhere. If a Humakti started singing his death song, then yes, he was going to die, and so were an awful lot of other people.

The Deathsong Berserk feat, however, just seems to give you a +2 or so, so being dead at the end would be rather unfair.
