I have a differing opinion here. I think that the option to have the character dissapear to a higher place is, in fact, highly useful to game play. Sure, if you use it the game is over. But while it is an option, it becomes something utterly important to the character's situation. That is, if the character is within striking distance of the secret, and has the HP to spend to get his abilities in place and such, then it's going to be fascinating to watch whether the player decides that his character is still stuck in the temporal muck of life, or decides to move on.

All characters can commit suicide as a basic ability, and this option is always something interesting about every character - that he doesn't commit suicide and keeps on living for some reason. Having access to a secret of a Great God or something simply adds to that complexity of character.

I'm firmly of the belief that all characters should come to the end of their story in play - be it death, passing on to their god, or just retirement. This is just one more cool potential end to a character that the system allows. Does such a secret let you hack up more Trollkin? Nope, it's far more interesting than that.
