  In the end, it becomes a question of what is useful to people. I personally think a ranking could be useful, even if the ranking doesn't map to the specific numbers.
One thing I've thought of given the way it seems HQ2 works is that I could pick up just about any supplement from any system and run it easily because if I know the number system used, I can rank NPCs quickly. It doesn't matter to me the exact distance from 5th level to 7th, just that 7th is better. 5 dots of Celerity are better than 4, etc.

That's sort of an argument in your favour, that some quick notation of numbers is helpful. Mind you, I am not sure that descriptions don't imply these rankings.

You know, this whole discussion makes me want to stamp my feet and hold my breath until I get a copy of HQ2. :)
