Very true. And when fighting mooks in the non-climactic fights, I DO
allow simple contests to dictate what appens. Afterall, they are
just
goons and are not really much of a challenge (but players do get
upset
when you say 'okay, you goon the guards' now what) -- it reduces the
flavor and.... spice of possible disaster that any good adventure
(and
adventurer) needs.

Yeah, they all work. And they were not defined as simple or extended contests as they were left to the narrator's judgment -- I have resolved them as simple contests m'self.
