Alain Rameau asked on the last GD about languages in Hero Wars.

My thoughts (which I go into in slightly more depth there) is that they are generally ignored as being "inconvenient" and "not dramatically necessary" most of the time.

But for those occasions when you want to comprehend or converse with an enemy who does not speak your language, how would you go about it in HW?

I assume that everyone has "Speak own language" at 6 (since that is the default for anything not written down...), but never needs to roll it to hold every day conversations. Your score in a foreign language will be higher, but you will have to roll it more often, since you may make mistakes.

So, A simple roll against your skill - this is probably appropriate for every day conversation - Buying food & Drink, Renting Lodgings etc

or a Contested roll against a resistance - probably better for getting across complex ideas, or understanding an overheard conversation not aimed directly at you (eg someone spying on a "foreign" enemy). The resisitance will depend on the complexity of the information, and the degree of success will determine how much is communicated.

Any one any other/better suggestions?
