Yeah, that works for me. But I might also give Jim a nice situational bonus to his close combat skill as his loyal henchman leaps out from behind the rock... Say, +2 or so.
Cleverness should be rewarded. Stupidity should also be rewarded but not quite the same way... The trick is telling one from the other.
