Thanks, Ian, for that sympathetic analysis.

All I can add as a moderator is that flame wars are newbie-unfriendly *regardless* of whether their content is esoteric or otherwise. I do *not* want them to be held on this list.

The list guidelines (www.etyries.com/lists.htm), agreed by the owners of the three main Gloranthan mailing lists, recognise that threads can evolve to become more appropriate for other lists, and anticipate that when they do so, they will be moved.

Thank you. We do what we can. I am *proud* that we issue very few warnings, and I can count the number of individuals whose posts have required moderation(*) on the fingers of one hand, and have enough fingers left over for a gesture of defiance. (The next time someone gets moderated, that'll degenerate to an obscene gesture; after that, someone'll get fisted).
