The problem some people are pointing to is that while flame wars are swiftly (and correctly) stomped on, esoterica appears to be more tolerated.

This is a major point - moderating a list can be a thankless task. It doesn't help when sometimes people (naming no names, because I can't remember them) ignore moderator directions. The easiest people to moderator are those who move threads themselves, without moderator input. (Again naming no mis-remembered names...)

Perhaps we should all try to fit more into the latter category, and less into the former?
