The tired old "but I wanna discuss that *here*" debate.

Hi all,

I have to say the threads that I find most disappointing and off-putting here are the constant barrage of whining and arguing that follows every single time a thread is deemed off topic. The moderators here have heard it all before, and are not likely to be convinced by the same arguments warmed over again.

>The digest is fine for discussing esoterica simply for the sake
>of discussing esoterica, but sometimes the esoterica is relevent
>to playing the game.

The danger of this line is that there is suddenly no topic that is off topic. "But I must know whether the god's are objectively differentiable - its relevant to *MY* game..."

This list is *not* designed for discussion of issues relevant to *your* particular game, but to some theoretical *typical* game. *You* may have a need to know about priestesses of Natha, playing of mystics, the effects of dumping real world humans into glorantha, or what a powerful gloranthan microscope might see, but I'll bet that none of these occur in the vast majority of games.

Keep this list for the beer and pretzel gamers. Please.

>Also, since this is a more responsive
>forum, with a quicker turnaround of messages, it is better
>suited to discussions of games that may be ongoing. If I had
>only had the Digest when I needed help with Nathan myths, the
>Digest would have een too little, too late.

Frankly, that's your problem. Most games run at a frequency of once a week or less. That's seven issues of the GD (minimum) between sessions. Any GM or player for-seeing a problem can happily get responses in that time. Anyone without that foresight won't look for help anyway...

In summary - this list exists as an answer to those who say "Glorantha isn't interesting to me - you need a degree in anthropology or comparative religion to even understand the basics". If we don't have such a place (and at the moment attitudes like this ensure we don't) we will scare off potential converts. Every person putting the selfish needs of their own particular games pecularities before the lists primary purpose is risking losing us Glorantha in total.
