There's a science fiction novel _Ring of Swords_ by Eleanor Arnason which presents a sexually-split society -- males and females of differing families rarely meet (reproduction is by artificial insemination) -- and there are essentially two societies: male life on the periphery and female life in the center. Both societies have their interpretations of why this is a good system and what it's really for. Additionally, the humans pretty much only deal with male society and have a very skewed idea of what the society is about. There are also some great scenes of a big bad general being grilled by his aunts that might go a long way to illuminating Uz society. Also, the story of a legendary general who outlives all the female kin of his generation and, when his nieces can't control his less-brilliant ideas, goes down to pathetic defeat.
