Sartarites and Tarshites speak almost-the-same language, but use two different scripts... rather like Serbs and Croats in the real world. (And they get on together just about as well).
Lhankhor Mhy cult members claim that their god invented both scripts, but then they would, wouldn't they? :)
Storm Tribe also says explicitly that literacy is NOTan LM monopoly among the Sartarites - but the LMs think that it ought to be! (and they accuse the literate of stealing cult secrets from them).
