Let me take a slightly different tack - in our game we have the exemple of Wilms Willandringsson, the "holy cowboy" of the Colymar. He's a devotee of Orlanth the Herder (which is pretty rare in its own right). Herding and taming animals is a sacred rite for him - and the player roleplays it as such. He is rightly famed for his religious devotion (sometimes it seems as though his entire life is a practice heroquest) and has gained the support of kings and chiefs. He's even started up an annual bulltaming festival - complete with bullriding and lasso tricks.

Is Wilms just "living the Heortling life"? No. In a group of very devout characters which include a Kev visionary and a tribal priest, Wilms stands out as exceptionally devout and dedicated to his god. Does he spend most of his time away from society? No. He spends most of his time herding and praying.
