PDF is another alternative. Provided you are print quality users who want to can print them out at Kinkos or similiar anyway. It works for books as well as magazines. It also makes it possible to reduce cost to the buyer. There is a lot to be said for print, but it does introduce a huge element of risk centered on the cost of doing the print run.

As for branding you can tag an imprint as being for 'unfinished works/fan material' to clearly distinguish the material from the 'professional' product.
