I'd say the Sartar book was a "Heortling Genre Pack".

I believe the solution to that problem is to take a thematic approach; divide the text into sub sections each a few hundred words long, each about one thing. Then a player can read a particular section as it becomes relevant, and ignore all the others until later. This is broadly the approach of S:KoH (although some of the sections are longer).

Anyone can play and narrate in Glorantha with zero Glorantha knowledge. Its just that if you play knowing little of the rich background information already published, the resulting game will drift further and further from that published background. But so what, if everyone is having fun? Or is it badwrongfun? To really accept that YGWV is to accept that someone might play a game in which the Red Goddess turns out to be a male deity and Uroxi detest beer.
