and pitch of the Esrolians to the sophisticated rock-oil lamps of the Mostali to the primitive wick and dish lamps buring deer or bear fat used by the Rathori.

If the Esrolians have naphtha and pitch, they may have the materials to make Greek Fire ... and the thrown oil flasks of D&D become a little less silly.

Back in the days of Different Worlds there was an article (I think the write-up of the Caladra cult?) which said that burning rock-oil and coal was seen as sacrilegious by the elves. Should that apply now?
