Come now, the Dara Happans aren't known for doing anything easy. Not only would they cut them into tenths, they would do it laterally through the coin to make 10 skinnier coins that are all circular (so as not to insult the Sun, you see), rather than triangular-ish pieces.

IMG, they'd have carried skinny cylinders of gold, and clipped off pieces that had a circular cross-section. The mint would simply stamp the outside of the cylider with measuring marks. No doubt that certain uptight Dara Happans say that all thos cylindical objects held by women in the gods wall carvings are just money.

Eventually, they figured out you could take the same amount of gold an make a coin of smaller circumference. That probably only took a couple of centuries.
