It is a common problem with paperbacks which have a plastic film on the cover. It is more noticeable on A4 sized books than smaller ones. Most of the time it is a gentle bending which can be reverse rolled and ends up reasonably flat if stored vertically in a full shelf of books. I suspect any covers that curl up into a tube have been stored at the top of a pile. I'd regard them as damaged in storage.
