I don't think the map of the known world covers all of the actual surface of the world, but is a fairly small portion in the middle. There are vast unmapped and unknown regions extending in all directions to the actual edges of the world. Furthermore the sun is very remote from the surface such that for any point within the known world, the difference in distance from the sun at dawn and dusk is not a major factor.
