Being removed from your caste means you are an outlaw, a barbarian, and outside the protection of law and community. If you have powerful friends (perhaps you are very very useful), you might still be permitted to reside in the community as a stranger; more likely you are expelled into a harsh world where you have no ties of caste, association, or sect.
