I seem to recall reading in a Runequest con companion that Greg and Sandy pronounce it differently to each other; one pay-vis one pah-vis. I could be wrong though!

      I'm also in Ontario, and use the short 'a' (Paa-vis).  Then again, I was introduced to Pavis by a group that included one guy from Ireland, one from the US, and brothers from Canada (Montreal, I think?), while we were all living in France.....so don't know who taught who that pronunciation.

But the other Gloranthophile I stumbled across in Ontario, who re-introduced me to the world, also said Paa-vis, and he was from Barry.

So it seems to either be random/group specific, or else micro-cultural, in how people pronounce it?

I always thought the name evoked a feel of a city in the middle of the wilderness, since the name makes it sound "paved" (even tho New Pavis is no doubt not paved in any way... perhaps some parts of the Rubble).
