I'll join the rest and say those who possess 1000 coins will most likely either be able to count them or have a specialist follower doing it for them.

It is quite astonishing that people had little difficulty to receive the correct change in a system using pennies, shillings and guineas. To someone unused to imperial measurements, this is an almost miraculous achievement. Fragments of 1/12 or 1/13 calculated effortlessly...

Real math probably falls under sorcery. Surveying, constructing stone bridges or fortress walls other than drystone? Strange stuff introduced by the Mostali.
