Yes. I like this and it makes sense. Of course, the monitors must be recognizable (red plumed helmets?) and this may also make them battlefield targets, but it does allow for more effective regrouping. (Don't run, find a monitor.) If this is the case, then the monitors may save their personal magic for the first break, allowing units that reassemble to recover faster and get back into battle--an advantage against units where each individual has already cast his or her personal magic and there are no monitors to fall back upon.
