The first two are major modern authorities on the Witch-Hysteria. The third wrote "Religion and the Decline of Magic". This is an excellent book about the role of magic in early modern England. It does examine ecclesiastical magic. However it is primarily concerned with astrologers and witches: both "white" witches and the malicious kind. If you want to read about independent magicians read this book. None of the witches in it were burnt, honest. They hung them in England, because it was a felony not a heresy; unlike Scotland or the continent.
