killing converts

> I don't think most Sartarites
>would have any trouble rationalizing the killing of converts from their own
>clan or tribe
Can I just strongly disagree with that?
I think all Sartarites agree with Simon Phipps point of view. Seven
Mothers worshipping Sartarites are not only legal members of the tribe, but can even be a tribal king (Bolthor and Blackmoor being the obvious examples). But thats an Orlanthi all, and your PCs are welcome to be in the remainder.

I think what happens if you kill converts is the anti-Lunar religious fanatics from your tribe (like Storm Bulls) pat you on the back, and the converts family probably try and kill you (and certainly bear you a strong hate). It might work, but it might just rip the tribe apart.

>After
>all, they've cast themselves out by becoming apostates and bowing down to
>chaotic deities.

The Seven Mothers are not necessarily chaotic. I think your average Orlanthi accepts this, but still hates them just for being soft on chaos, even if they aren't chaotic themselves. But its a different level of hate. And I certainly don't think that if cousin Alfred is a weak Orlanthi and likes some free Teelo Norri soup now and again, and is willing to sit through a worship service to do it, that gives you free licence to kill him without honour.

And to be honest, I find the idea that all Orlanthi consider all Seven Mothers to be on a par with broo to be an oversimplification, and also miss out on half the fun. The Lunars are often subtle villains, wooing converts, helping out, fitting in. I agree that Orlanthi preachers will say that the Lunars are chaos monsters, but that doesn't mean everyone takes them at face value. Think of some of the things religious extremists say in our world. The Lunars vs the Orlanthi is politics, not genocidal warfare.

But there are probably Storm Bulls to whom wiping out a Teelo Norri temple is indeed
>no different from wiping out an infestation of ogres
>or a nest of Malliants

and I bet most of the people think of them much as we would think of a vicious terrorist who happens to be on our side.

In other words, I think I agree with Nick and Pam - Orlanthi hate Lunars, but that doesn't mean they are outside law or civilisation, and many of them may make exceptions to their hate.

        Cheers

                David
