Minature Warfare and James Frusetta

I'm usually not a miniatures player. This is ostly connected to the fact that I hate painting miniatures. I wouldn't like having a metal-coloured army - it looks silly.

But now and then one of my miniature-playing friends asks for opposition and lends me one of his armies, and we slug it out. I usually lose, but hey, he pays the munchies!

Anyway, for complicated personal reasons I happened to read a miniature rulesbook closely for the first time in my life, and it did not only increase my appreciation of the hobby, it also made me realize one important thing about Gloranthan miniature gaming.

Glorantha is one hell of a world to play Warmalletesque games in. You see, the Fun part of such wargaming is those special troops, unique tactical abilities and special personalities - and Glorantha reeks with those. And unlike the other games I know of (Warhammer, Warzone) it is not the "bad guys" who have the most nifty things to do (like Chaos and Orks in Warhammer and the Dark Legion in Warzone), but almost every "team" can field funny specials to complement the basic troops, which aint boring to start with.

Heck, I might even learn miniature painting if that Italian game ever is published...

(And what about James Frusetta? Well, his Troll Warfare posts helped me realize the above. Actually, James is by me nominated to the Trickster Award I earlier proposed. And I hope I haven't misunderstood his name or gender... (-: )
