How about the Elf tending the plant "weaves" the veins in the leaves, like the way farmers "weave" hedgerowa to make them grow in density/strength.

I like this idea. With the danger of Gregging myself, perhaps this is where bows would come in handy.

The only difficulty would be the extra weight on the arm holding the
bow. The buckler would be too small to obscure any targets. As for bow
trance, I don't think it would make any difference.

I always thought that runners overwhelmed by numbers. Also, IIRC, I don't think they have the INT to learn to use a bow.
