Hey, I don't remember you from our game. (It happened after her first adventure, as I recall. And she was a royal pain for GMs from then on, with her Sleep 6.)
One of the many abuses that RQ3 reacted against.

It's an elevation thing. Remember that Dragon Pass proper is the continental divide for Genertela.
(In Jeff Richard's game, we're always having bitterly cold winters, which might be a bit extreme, but I do suspect that if you don't stable your animals, you risk losing them. Not every year, but often enough.)
