quick comment on copyrights

Howdy,

I kept out of the Copyright discussion, but as since I work at the Civil Division of the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, and deal with the disasterous consequences of people who think they know the law, I feel obliged to make a couple of comments.

(1) If you want to print a Glorantha scenario either in print or on the
internet ask Chaosium for permission. It is really easy to do - Rob Heinsoo is a very nice fellow and will probably say "yes".
(2) I haven't read Avalon Hill's contract with Chaosium so I will make no
guesses about what their role is, suffice to say that if Rob says to contact Avalon Hill, you should probably do so.
(3) In the unlikely event that these nice folk say no to your polite
request, don't rely on the "shooting from the hip" legal advice on the Digest, contact a lawyer who is familiar with Copyright and Trademark law
(remember there are two seperate statutory schemes involved in IP, plus a
host of state common-law schemes).

A general maxim: Do not assert legal rights unless you have actually researched them - some state's allow legal expenses to be collected even from pro se parties in the event that a judge determines that their cause of action or defense was legally frivolous.
